How does your waitlist work?

We have a priority and a general waitlist. Our priority waitlist is deposit based. Priority list clients have signed my contract electronically and send the deposit via etransfer or bring it in person. They are then placed on the list in the order they were received. The more open someone is to gender and color, the quicker that person could get a puppy. Our general waitlist is for those who do not want to place a deposit, but want to be contacted if we have any puppies that become available after the priority list has chosen.

Do you require a deposit to hold a puppy that becomes available?

Yes. We will not hold a puppy without a deposit placed.

Are all of your dogs CKC (Canadian Kennel Club) Registered?

Yes! Pedigrees are available upon request.

Do you only breed cream in longhaired dachshunds?

Yes! But this doesn’t mean that all of our puppies are clear cream with no pattern. We breed cream instead of red. We will produce puppies that are dapple cream, piebald cream, black and cream ect…!

Do you ever breed Dilute colors, like Isabella, Fawn or Blue?

No, we do not. We have our dogs tested by Embark, and that test will show if our dogs have any dilute. We specifically avoid dilute colors and we do not support the breeding of those colors. Put simply, it is too risky to breed and produce dogs with those colors. Very often, dilute dachshunds have health and skin issues. CDA (color dilution alopecia) is a common disease that these dogs will suffer from.

Should I get a male or a female puppy?

A dachshund is a dachshund. The breed has specific traits that will be displayed by both dogs especially when they are pets and will be spayed or neutered. Some people say they want a female only because only females are affectionate, but that’s actually very untrue. Males are typically much more affectionate and they thrive on attention from their owner. Females are affectionate as well, but they tend to be more independent. This can be a benefit for some families, but some people want a dog to completely dote on them. A male is your pick if you want your puppy to be completely obsessed with you. A female will be most likely to come to their owner on the couch when she wants attention, but will move away when she has had enough and go chew on a bone. A male would be more likely to stay right next to you and never get enough. The choice is yours! But always remember that we breed for great temperament, and a dachshund is a dachshund. So either choice will be a good one, do not get too hung up on the sex of the dog.

Do the long haired dachshunds shed more?

Yes. But not much…the long haired coat is more high maintenance because it does need regular brushing to avoid matting. But as far as shedding, both coats shed the same throughout the year, where summer is the highest time.

What about IVDD?

Dachshunds are one of the breeds that are prone to IVDD (Intervertebral Disk Disease). It can be difficult to 100% prevent spinal injuries, but you can greatly reduce the odds of it happening to your dog. 1. Exercise – make your your dog is lean and fit. The breed can gain weight easily, do not let this get out of control or the risk for ivdd can raise. A strong , healthy back with muscles will have a defense against injury. 2. Ramps – get a ramp if you plan on having your dog on the couch or bed. I do not put ramps on my stairs, I let my dogs run up and down the stairs because it is exercise and strengthens their muscles. But, if they fall off of something like a couch, this is where the risk can come in. 3. Handling- make sure you pick up and hold a dachshund correctly by supporting their back, and make sure you teach people how to do the same to your dog.

What do you feed your dogs?

We are currently feeding FROMM foods brand feed. These formulas are designed to be an ideal dog food for different stages, including growing puppies, pregnant or whelping mothers, and normally active adult dogs of all breeds. It is easy to digest and nutrient-dense with vitamins and minerals essential for building strength, as well as fruits and veggies. I have tried many different feeds, this one the dogs never turn down, put simply they love this food. My dogs all have great weights, stool and balanced energy on this feed.

Do you recommend adding anything to your dog's kibble?

Yes, we always hydrate their feed with either water, organic bone broth or goat’s milk. Hydration is so important for dogs. We live on a small farm, so we give our dogs things like fresh chicken eggs, quail eggs, rabbit meat, blueberries and other produce as either treats or additives to their food. Additionally, supplements like omega 3 fish oil are added for our dogs who are more prone to itchy skin (smooth haired dachshunds).
